Play Submissions

Theatre Ariel is always seeking the next great Jewish play to present to our audiences. Anyone may submit through the process outlined below. We are looking for plays that engage with the rich world of Jewish life, thought and practice; plays where Judaism, Jewish identity or Jewish perspectives are significant or driving factors in the story (In other words, not plays where the characters ‘happen’ to be Jewish or that have a few yiddishisms or “Jewish jokes” in them, but plays where Jewish life/thought/history is integral or particularly relevant to the story.).

Most of our performances are presented as salon-style theatre readings in intimate venues.

Jews of Color, Sephardic and Mizrahi Jews, MENA playwrights are all highly encouraged to submit!

You do not have to be Jewish to have your work considered by Theatre Ariel.

BEST PRACTICES FOR SUBMISSIONS:

  • We are not currently seeking short plays

  • Plays must be for a cast of five actors or less

  • We are particularly interested in plays with modern relevance – what it means to be Jewish today

  • Nostalgia pieces or scripts that traffic in stereotypical tropes of Jewish comedy and/or trauma are less likely not be considered

  • We are particularly interested in plays that celebrate and explore modern Jewish life, Jewish “joy”, or grapple with Judaism in unique and interesting ways

  • If your play is Holocaust-related, we encourage you to consider if it is a new perspective or uniquely told before submitting – we have many such plays in our inbox; what makes yours different?

  • We encourage you to view the list of our past performances (link to show archives) to see both the kind of work we do and to avoid submitting work similar to those we have recently produced

To have your script considered, please email the following to submissions@theatreariel.org

  • Brief cover letter introducing yourself and your play, as well as a short plot summary and character breakdown (indicating doubling, if any)

  • The latest draft of your script, in either PDF or Word format

  • Theatre Ariel is committed to reading and responding to every submission we receive. Please allow up to six months for a response.

Please forward any questions you may have to the same email address listed above.
